Population of the province of Cusco: 305.789 inhabitants (estimated in 2002)

Location: Cusco is situated in the south of Peru with areas of mountain and forest, covering an area of ​​76.329 square kilometers with a population now  over one million inhabitants.

In the highlands the seasons are divided into wet and dry periods. From December to March is the rainy season. The annual average temperature is 11 ° C; while in areas of forest more than 25° C.


Cusco has throughout its history figured prominently in the cultural development of Peru. Founded between the eleventh and twelfth centuries, Cusco became the capital of the Inca Empire and was the focus of the vast territorial expansion of Tawantinsuyu. The Spanish founding of Cusco took place in March 1534, commanded by Francisco Pizarro.

During the Vice Royalty……large mansions, imposing churches and convents with a profusion of artwork inside were built upon the foundations of Inca buildings.
